| | Tuesday October 22, 2019, 3:36 PM | City of Malibu Emergency Services | | | | Advisory: Red Flag Warning - Thur, Oct 24, 1AM to Fri, Oct 25, 10PM Dear Pepperdine Libboard, The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 1:00 AM Thursday morning, October 24, through 10:00 PM Friday evening, October 25, over most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties for moderate to strong Santa Ana winds, high temperatures, and very low relative humidity. A Santa Ana wind event will bring widespread critical conditions to most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. There is still some uncertainty in the strength of the winds, but peak gusts between 45 and 65 mph is the most likely outcome. Minimum humidities will likely lower well below 10 percent, with maximum temperatures between 87 and 97. This is a dangerous situation with an environment ripe for large and fast fire growth. CONDITIONS * Winds: Northeast 20 to 40 mph with gusts to 65 mph - strongest in the mountains and hills * Relative Humidity: As low as 2-5 percent - very poor overnight recoveries * Temperature: As high as 87-97 degrees, with warmest temperatures expected on Friday * Impacts: If fire ignition occurs, conditions will likely be favorable for extreme fire behavior, which would threaten life and property. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources.
