City of Malibu Emergency Services

Advisory: UPDATE 3/31, 4 PM –Hotline for seniors. Stimulus package. Business insurance. Keep social distancing

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

UPDATE 3/31, 4 PM – State adds special phone hotline for seniors. CA Dept of Insurance offers help with business interruption insurance. Senator Feinstein explains stimulus package benefits. County reminder – stay home and keep on social distancing.

Malibu City Hall is closed. However, essential City staff, including the Emergency Operations Team, are working. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated on March 13 and is operating 7 days a week. Staff is answering the City’s main phone line (310-456-2489) but, due to the high number of calls, it is recommended that residents email info@malibucity.org for the quickest response. Thank you for your patience – we will respond as quickly as possible.

STATE HOTLINE FOR SENIORS NEEDING ASSISTANCE
The Governor announced today a hotline for seniors needing assistance. Seniors with any questions or concerns, needs for assistance with tracking down prescriptions or other non-urgent medical needs, meal delivery, and more can call the hotline at 833-544-2374. Remember, all seniors should stay home for their health and well-being, but if there is an emergency, call 911.

CA INSURANCE DEPT OFFERS ASSISTANCE WITH BUSINESS INTERRUPTION INSURANCE
The California Dept of Insurance strongly recommends that businesses review their business interruption insurance policies and contact their insurance companies to determine what their policies cover with regard to loss of business income due to recent orders suspending business operations. For more information on business interruption insurance and other issues affecting California small businesses visit: http://www.insurance.ca.gov/01-consumers/140-catastrophes/FAQ-on-Business-Interruption-Insurance.cfm.
If your commercial insurance claim was denied, request a Dept of Insurance investigation at http://www.insurance.ca.gov/01-consumers/101-help/index.cfm.

SENATOR FEINSTEIN EXPLAINS BENEFITS AVAILABLE FROM STIMULUS PACKAGE
Senator Dianne Feinstein released information on the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package signed last week, which includes new unemployment benefits for self-employed, part-time and gig workers who were not previously eligible for such benefits. These workers were made eligible because the economic damage caused by the coronavirus is “the economic damage caused by the coronavirus isn’t discriminating between different types of workers and so neither should federal benefits.” Senator Feinstein encourages all Californians who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic to apply for unemployment benefits, if needed. For filing instructions and FAQs, visit https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=coronavirus-casework

COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH REMINDS ALL RESIDENTS OF NECESSITY OF SOCIAL DISTANCING
With warm weather forecasted for Los Angeles, the County reminds residents that the Safer At Home directives are still in effect, and cautions against “behavioral fatigue” that may set in, especially when it is tempting to go outside. All residents should continue to remain inside their homes unless it is absolutely necessary to leave in order to perform essential functions. Each time you leave your home, even without symptoms, you put yourself and anyone near you at risk for contracting and spreading COVID-19.

ORDERS DIRECT SELF-QUARANTINE IF EXPOSED AND SELF-ISOLATION IF DIAGNOSED OR SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19
In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, protect vulnerable individuals, and prevent the LA County healthcare system from being overwhelmed, the County Health Officer issued two separate orders:

• Self-isolation of anyone diagnosed with or showing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within 14 days of being in close contact with a person who had or was believed to have COVID-19.

These Orders ensure that individuals who test positive for COVID-19, and those who are told by a clinician they are presumed to be positive for COVID-19, are required to self-isolate for a period of at least three days without symptoms, including being fever-free without taking medicine, and seven days since symptoms started, whichever is longer. Additionally, those who have been in close contact with someone who is positive or presumed positive must quarantine themselves for 14 days from the last time they had contact with the ill person.
