Advisory: #LASD East LA Detectives Seek Public's Help in Locating Assault Suspect, Unincorporated Los Angeles @EastLALASD

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

East Los Angeles Station Detectives have been actively working on solving two Assault with Deadly Weapon investigations. The cases involve a single suspect striking two victims on two separate occasions without warning with a hammer-type weapon.

The first assault occurred on Friday, March 25, 2016 in the 1400 block of South Bonnie Beach Place, unincorporated Los Angeles.  The suspect walked up to the elderly male and, without any warning or provocation, struck him with a hammer type weapon. When the victim fell to the ground the suspect kicked the victim.  The suspect then fled southbound Bonnie Beach Place and out of view.  The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 40 to 45 years old, between 5’10 and 6’00 tall, heavy set, wearing a straw hat and blue wind breaker-type jacket.

The second assault took place on the same date few hours later, in the 4400 block of Triggs Street, unincorporated Los Angeles.  In this incident, the victim was standing in front of a residence when without warning or provocation the suspect attacked a female adult.  The suspect struck the victim with a hammer-like weapon several times about the head.  The woman immediately fell to the ground and fell unconscious.  The suspect fled in an unknown direction.  Witnesses in this incident describe the suspect as a male in his mid-forties, approximately 240 pounds, 6’00 tall, wearing a black jacket and black pants.

Both victims in these incidents were transported to local hospitals and are listed in serious condition.

The investigations are on-going and there is no additional information at this time.

Community: What's That Noise?

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

Is it Too Late to Buy Road Side Assistance?

Picture this, you running late for work and this happens…either a flat tire or you forgot to put gas in the car the night before. Regardless of the issue, becoming stranded on the freeway is no place to be, day or night. Safety should be your number one concern at this time.

Here are few tips to follow in case you become stranded on the freeway:

• Drive your car to the right shoulder to avoid being hit by traffic
and keep your seat belt on.
• If you exit your vehicle, watch for traffic and find a safe place to wait such as, behind a guardrail or up an embankment.
• If you are stuck in a traffic lane or center divide, turn on your hazard lights on and dial 9-1-1.
• Use a cellphone or a call box to arrange for roadside assistance.
• Exit the freeway when possible.

It's always a good idea to make sure that your car has the basic essentials if you find yourself stranded on the side of the road. Check the trunk of the car for the appropriate spare tire and more importantly that it has air in it. You should inspect your spare tire every six months. Make sure your car is properly equipped with a car jack and a lug wrench to change your tire. If you have aftermarket wheels or wheel locks, ensure you have the correct equipment needed.

Even a newer car can break down. Going that extra mile to be better prepared can go a long way. Putting together a small emergency kit in your vehicle can help you in your time of need. Some items to consider would be a first aid kit, flashlight, flares, jumper cables and some bottled water. You can securely stow this kit in the trunk of your vehicle.

The California Highway Patrol reminds you don't let the air out of your tires before you hit the road. Don't let a flat slow you down.
