Advisory: NWS forecasts hot dry weather, potential for fire conditions in SoCal. No current threat to Malibu.

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts dangerously hot weather conditions with potential for critical fire conditions for parts of Southern California Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1. While NWS does not expect fire conditions on the coast and in Malibu, the combination of hot, dry and breezy conditions could create dangerous fire conditions in areas where, if a wildfire starts, it could threaten Malibu. The City and the Los Angeles County Fire Department are monitoring weather conditions for potential fire danger, and will send out emergency alerts as needed.

Malibu residents are urged to be prepared for potential wildfires, with the start of hot, dry, windy weather during wildfire season:

- MONITOR CONDITIONS - Monitor weather and fire conditions on local news, including KBUU 99.1 FM and KNX 1070 AM, and follow NWS online at https://www.weather.gov/lox and on social media at https://twitter.com/NWSLosAngeles. Follow the City on social media at https://twitter.com/CityMalibu and https://www.facebook.com/CityofMalibu.

- SIGN UP FOR ALERTS - Make sure all members of your family, business, school or organization are signed up for emergency, weather and traffic alerts by text and email from the City - sign up at www.MalibuCity.org/news (scroll down to Alert Center). Sign up for Los Angeles County emergency alerts at https://lacounty.gov/emergency/alert-la/.

- GET PREPARED - Learn how to prepare your family for wildfires and other disasters with the City's new, free Emergency Survival Guide at www.MalibuCity.org/SurvivalGuide. Review your emergency plan, and check the expiration dates of emergency food, water and medical supplies and batteries.

All southbound lanes of Kanan Dume are closed for several hours at tunnel 2 just north of Mulholland Hwy due to a vehicle fire in the tunnel. Fire, Caltrans and CHP are on scene. Fire is extinguised, but southbound lanes will be closed for several hours. Southbound traffic is being diverted into northbound lanes.

Advisory: #LASD is Asking for the Public's Help Locating At-Risk Missing Person Theadore Anthony Melendrez, #Lancaster

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Missing Persons Unit investigators are asking for the public’s help locating At-Risk Missing Person Theadore Anthony Melendrez. He is an 85 year-old male Hispanic who was last seen on July 19, 2020, on the 45000 block of Challenger Way, Lancaster.

Theadore is 5’10” tall, 140lbs, and brown eyes, short grey hair and a mustache. He also has a big scar on his left leg/shin. He was last seen wearing unknown clothing but usually wears a black “Korea Vet’ Hat.

Mr. Melendrez suffers from Alzheimer’s. His loved ones have not seen or heard from him. They are very concerned and asking for the public’s help.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Missing Persons Unit at (323) 890-5500.
