| | Monday October 28, 2019, 5:08 PM | City of Malibu Emergency Services | | | | Advisory: Extreme Red Flag Warning - Tues, Oct 29, 11PM to Thur, 10/31, 12PM Dear Pepperdine Libboard, The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an EXTREME Red Flag Warning will be in effect in the Santa Monica Mountains, as well as the coasts and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, from 11:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29, through 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 31. The peak of the wind event is expected to be on Wednesday when damaging wind gusts between 50 and 70 mph will be likely for the wind-prone areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with isolated gusts to 80 mph in the mountains. This Santa Ana wind event will likely be the strongest so far this season. Combined with a long duration of single digit humidities (including very poor to no recoveries Wednesday night), and dry fuels, this will likely bring very critical fire weather conditions, making this an Extreme Red Flag Warning event. Los Angeles County Fire Dept will have augmented staffing in place for Malibu and surrounding areas. If fire ignition occurs, conditions will be favorable for extreme fire behavior and very rapid fire spread which would threaten life and property. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected. A combination of strong winds, very low relative humidity and dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution with potential fire ignition sources.
