Advisory: *Update* #LASD Armed Barricaded Suspect In Custody 44300 Blk 4th St East, Lancaster.

Hi Pepperdine Libboard,

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel are continuing their investigation into the circumstances which lead up to an armed barricade incident which started early Tuesday, September 9, 2014, and concluded later that same evening.

The suspect, who was armed with a rifle, refused to exit the location, which resulted in the response from a Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons Team.

For several hours, there were numerous attempts to have the suspect exit peacefully.  The suspect, however fired several rounds at deputy personnel.

The situation concluded after tear gas was deployed into the location.  The suspect then surrendered to deputy personnel without further incident.

The Suspect Stephen Donald Haynes,  was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening, self- inflicted, gun-shot wound to his jaw.

No deputy personnel were reported injured.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lancaster Station at (661) 948-8466.  If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

Original press release as follows:

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), Special Weapons Team is en route to 44300 block 4th Street East to assist Antelope Valley Court deputies, and Lancaster Station deputies regarding the circumstances surrounding an armed barricaded suspect.

This morning, at approximately 10:30, deputies from Court Services went to the location to serve a court-ordered eviction notice when they were confronted by a 50-year-old male White adult who pointed a rifle at them. The deputies immediately retreated and called for assistance. Information was later obtained that would indicate the suspect has access to several rifles. The suspect is believed to be alone.

As a precaution, the Kinder Care located at 44500 block of Foxton Avenue, which is across the street from the location was evacuated by deputy personnel. Out of an abundance of caution, El Dorado School, 361 East Pondera Street, was released from the northwest corner and parents were allowed to pick up their children from the north side of the school. Most of the students have been reunited with their parents; however, some students still remain in safe care of  El Dorado Elementary personnel. Parents of students are asked to pick up their children at the east parking lot of the school.  Access can be made from Lancaster Boulevard to southbound Foxton Avenue.

Special Enforcement Bureau, Special Weapons Team deputies have assumed command of the tactical response and Crisis Negotiation Team deputies are working to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.

The media can assemble at the schools east parking lot on the 44500 block of Foxton Avene for updates.

There is no further information at this time.
