Community: #LASD L.A SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE OVER $11.1 M IN SERVICES DURING 2014!!!

Dear Nixle User,

In 2014 the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Volunteers saved Los Angeles County $11,162,079.23!  They volunteered a total of 450,993 hours performing various law enforcement support functions. Their duties include Volunteers on Patrol, Mounted Posse, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and administrative support functions.

These 3,532 volunteers come from all walks of life and all socio-economic levels.  Many are retired while some are students and currently enrolled in local universities and community colleges. They maintain their outside full or part-time jobs while at the same time donating a minimum of 16 hours every month to the Sheriff’s Department.  Many Volunteers put in much more than the minimum requirement

They have all successfully completed a Volunteer Orientation and or Volunteer on Patrol Academy and various other trainings, totaling hundreds of volunteer hours.

For additional information regarding the excellent work performed by these outstanding volunteers or to find out how to volunteer for the Sheriff’s Department contact the Community Partnerships Bureau’s Volunteer Program at (562) 347-1080 or email cleppoffice@lasd.org.

Community: Sheriff's Station Invites Residents to Meet Newest Station Volunteer- A Miniature Horse! #LASD #westlakevillage

Dear Nixle User,

We are excited to announce that the newest volunteer member of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, a miniature therapy horse, will be at the Westlake Village Library to present, the first of its kind, innovative program to promote childhood literacy. This fantastic event will be held February 18, 2015, from 4:00-5:30 PM. There will be stories about horses, the opportunity to learn about these magical miniature therapy horses and the programs within which they work, and the chance to visit and interact with a miniature therapy horse.

Miniature Therapy Horses are highly trained to work with hospitals, hospice programs, outreach programs, law enforcement communities, and with those who have experienced traumatic events. The therapy programs have touched 35,000 people nationwide and include the Ronald McDonald House. These horses were also dispatched to help console victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, CT. Their varied and unique skills have aided in many diverse situations and may be invaluable.

Now, these incredible little horses will bring their special talents and experience to our local community as the newest members of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Please join Sheriff’s Department Personnel, a miniature therapy horse and her trainer, and the children for this, first ever, momentous occasion and share in supporting childhood literacy.

To attend this event, please visit us at the Westlake Village Library in the large Community Room at 31220 Oak Crest Dr., Westlake Village on Wednesday, February 18th.

Community: #SuperBowl Impaired Driving Task Force nets 28 #DUI arrests in the unincorporated areas of Baldwin Park, La Puente, Covina...

Dear Nixle User,

On Super Bowl Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officers saturated portions of Baldwin Park, La Puente, Covina, Glendora, West Covina, Azusa and Monrovia, looking for impaired drivers.

The Impaired Driver Task Force is comprised of 24 CHP Officers from Southern Division that are highly skilled in the apprehension of impaired drivers. The detail started at 7:00 p.m, Sunday February 1st, and ended at 3:30 a.m, Monday February 2nd. This effort resulted in a total of 28 DUI arrests.

More drinking-related crashes happen in California on the day of the National Football League championship than on any other Sunday in January and February, according to the California Department of Insurance. CHP officers see the consequences of drinking and driving first-hand.

The California Highway Patrol reminds everyone that drinking, or using illegal or prescription drugs while driving, reduces your ability to react to changing traffic conditions. Bicyclists, pedestrians and disabled vehicles are a part of our every day driving. When you combine driving, drugs and drinking the results can be fatal.

The California Highway Patrol will continue to use this task force throughout Los Angeles County in an effort to reduce fatal collisions as well as to discourage drinking and driving.
