City of Malibu Emergency Services

Advisory: LA County Fire Dept issued a Fire Weather Watch for Malibu area, 10AM Tues, Jan. 1 through 8AM Wed, Jan. 2 due to strong Santa Ana winds.

Dear Pepperdine Libboard,

The L.A. County Fire Department issued a Fire Weather Watch in effect from 10:00 AM Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 through 8:00 AM Wednesday, Jan. 2 due to strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity forecast for Southern California.

Moderate to strong Northeast winds and low relative humidity are expected in the mountains of Los Angeles County, including the City of Malibu.

Santa Ana winds are expected to develop across the mountains and some valleys during the day Monday, then strengthen and become more widespread across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties Monday night into New Years Day with damaging wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph possible. Substantial fire risk still exists in all areas east of Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Rd extending to the 405 Fwy.
