Community: Malibu Canyon to be Closed 9 pm-5 am for 7 Months #LASD #LATraffic @CHPWestValley #MalibuCanyon

Dear Nixle User,

Beginning approximately January 15, 2015 Malibu Canyon Road will be closed from 9 pm – 5 am every night while under construction. Los Angeles County Public Works is undertaking this massive 7 month project in order to improve the tunnel’s interior lining by replacing steel plates inside of the tunnel. Other improvements will be made to the roadway in order to improve road safety and driver comfort. The project will also bring water quality benefits with the construction of a vegetated swale, which will filter pollutants from storm water and help replenish groundwater supplies.

During the project, Malibu Canyon Road will be closed from 9 pm - 5 am seven days a week, according to LA County Public Works.  Signs have already been posted throughout the area to give drivers plenty of notice that roads will be closed.

Traffic will be detoured onto Kanan Dume Road and Topanga Canyon Blvd during these hours.  All traffic will be allowed through at all other times.

For more information, visit the LA County Public Works website at http://dpw.lacounty.gov/pdd/proj/MalibuTunnel/

Community: Solo Rollover Traffic Accident by DUI Driver Reminds Us All- Don't Drink and Drive #LASD #staysober #arrivealive

Dear Nixle User,

At 11:30 am today, Malibu/Lost Hills deputies responded to a call of a traffic accident involving a single vehicle that had flipped over.  After arriving on scene, deputies discovered that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and that his ability to drive had been impaired greatly.  The male driver had been attempting to do donuts in a dirt lot at Kanan/Agoura Road when he lost control of his vehicle and flipped over one time before landing in the upright position.  The driver was transported to the hospital where he was medically cleared and released back to Sheriff's deputies to be arrested on drunk driving charges.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

This is a reminder to us all not to drink and drive.  There is typically an increase in DUI arrests during the holidays, and the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station urges you to be an alert driver and dial 9-1-1 immediately if you suspect a driver is impaired.

Advisory: LASD's Traffic Services Detail DUI / CDL Checkpoint, City of Lakewood, Thursday, December, 11, 2014, Nets 7 Arrests

Dear Nixle User,

Lakewood, CA - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Traffic Services Detail conducted a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on  Thursday, December 11, 2014, on Paramount Boulevard at Del Amo Boulevard between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

DUI/Drivers License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries.  A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.  Ninety Percent of California drivers approve of checkpoints.

1292 Vehicles through the Checkpoint

630 Drivers Checked at the Checkpoint

4 DUI – Drug (Marijuana) Suspects Arrested

2 Suspended Drivers were Arrested and Sent to Court

1 Unlicensed Driver was Arrested and Sent to Court

2 Vehicles were Impounded for 30 Days

2 Vehicles were Stored for 1 Day

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting additional DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the upcoming year in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.

Funding for these operations is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety http://www.ots.ca.gov/ through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/

If you see dangerous driving, Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1!

Partner to prevent or report crime by contacting your local Sheriff’s station. Or if you wish to remain Anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org

AS A DRIVER, PLAN AHEAD WITH THESE TIPS:

Arrange rides home for your friends, family, co-workers and yourself before the drinking begins

Identify and provide free non-alcoholic drinks or other promotional items to the Designated Driver

Party hosts and servers must limit drinks to your guests or patrons. Don’t serve more than one or two over several hours.

Cut back on the amount of drinks you plan to bring to the party – and provide plenty of food.
