Community: 3rd Row Seat #Theft a Growing Trend- Do Not Become a Victim #LASD

Hi Pepperdine Libboard,

3rd Row Seat Theft a Growing Trend- Do Not Become a Victim

Although breaking into vehicles and stealing the third row has been a common type crime in the past, it is quickly becoming a growing problem in our area.  Thieves are entering locked and unlocked SUV's and stealing the third row of seats to sell on various websites for large amounts of money.

Popular targets are shown to be Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC SUV's because the seats are interchangeable with other GM SUV's.  The third row seats are sold as an optional feature, and are designed to quickly and easily removed, inadvertently making them as easy target for thieves.  Once stolen, they are sold for quick cash, and are valued between $400-$800.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and other law enforcement agencies throughout the county recommend engraving or marking your third row seat with the license plate of your vehicle so that they are easier for law enforcement to trace if stolen.  Also, it is suggested that you lock your own third row with a bicycle lock, like shown.

Do not become the next victim- Protect Yourself.

Hi Pepperdine Libboard,

Prescription Drug Take Back Day Being Held at Malibu/Lost Hills Station This Saturday, September 27th

This Saturday, September 27th, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is hosting it's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Citizens can drop off their expired, unwanted, or unused prescription drugs at any drop-off location throughout the country. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is one of about 4,000 participating law enforcement agencies that are accepting these drugs, a free and anonymous service. Please note that only pills and solids (such as patches) will be accepted, liquids and needles will still need to be disposed of in an appropriate manner.

According to the DEA's website, unused medications in homes are commonly stolen, misused, abused, or accidently ingested. A survey found that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends of the abuser.  Another problem with unused prescription drugs left around the home is that they commonly get flushed down the toilet or get thrown in the trash, which only contaminates water supplies or results in theft and abuse of prescription drugs. It is because of this that the DEA created a program to rid homes of as many drugs as possible.

Last April, Americans turned in over 780,000 pounds of prescription drugs. Please bring any qualifying drugs to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on Saturday, September 27th. Cardboard boxes will be labeled for your convenience.
